Hi. So I live in NewEngland, Massachusetts to be exact about 15 minutes from downtown Plymouth, MA where tehe Plymouth Rock and the MayflowerII is and it's a major tourist trap and right along beach there's tons of stores; and recently I realized a big sign on one that said 'Live Hermit Crabs' with a cartoon hermit crab on it.. First of all this summer here hasn't been too warm at all & I scared to go into the store, but payday I just might go in and see what the situation is.. Most likely horrid conditions.
BUT I'm going to see if they'll take care sheets and I'm going to see if I can set up a tank for them.

I know an the sad part is the it's always atleast 10 degrees cooler right along the ocean and they always have the frot doors propped open, so I'm sure a bunch of hermit crabs die daily there, but I might just do a little rescue depending on my experience. Although some don't condone purchasing from these type of establishments, I do.

Yes, but quit frankly me not buying them wouldn't make a legitimate impact, unfortunetly. But spreading acurate information on land hermit crabs as a whole has much more power in it. We got to realize how many die and are replaced automatically as well. Its a sad situation.
I think Hermitguy92 has the right idea. He's not just buying the crabs, he's handing out useful info on how the store can look after their crabs and stop so many crabs dying before the shop can make a profit from them. Therefore, the shop will attempt to make the crabbie's stay more habitable so they can sell more living crabs, and so hermieguy doesn't have to go back to save lives again.
4/1 - Stained crab is a boy! 1/5 - Got a 'sick crab' pack from Nat. I'm very impressed, it's a large pack so will feed all crabs! 30/6 - My new hygros have arrived! The big tank is 29degrees/81humidity. The little tank has the same temperature but 86humidity.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
