this is exactly the instructions I was looking for ... phew glad you did not delete this post. I took notes in my hand written crabbie journal. Hubby and I are going to put together a small inside one ... do you think a tupperware container would be ok? do you think i need to put holes in the lid?

Oh I wouldn't delete stuff; in fact when she freaked out on me she was gonna take all her posts down and I told her I wasn't gonna let her tear my board apart by doing that, plus people don't pay attention when they read the terms of service (IF they do) that says that all posts on the forum become my intellectual property by being posted here.
Yeah, I think a tupperware would work & from what I just looked up, yeah you'll need air holes.

Great!! I just dug up 14 worms from my garden. I put some organic potting soil at the bottom of a small rubbermaid container (not name brand, but you get my drift), then I put a little bit of coconut fibre over top ... maybe 2 cups worth. Then I put Some 5:1 mix over top of that, about 3 cups worth, or a bit more. Then I mixed it all up. Added the 14 worms (I'll probably need more, but it started to rain). Then I got some dead honeysuckle leaves, some dead hosta leaves, some grass, and then soaked it all with a spray bottle. Hubby drilled a hole but ended up breaking the lid (haha) good enough.. they can breathe through that.

That sounds like a good plan. I was thinking of doing something similar. Hope it all works out well for you. You may want to start another thread to show how you set it up and how it worked out. I know I would love to see pictures.

Well I followed these instructions, and it didn't work ... =( all my worms are dead. and the plant matter i put in there went gross and mouldy.... so I"m either going to resort back to just buying online .. or get a worm kit from online, but they're expensive *sigh

yes I had air holes ... and i think i was supposed to stir it up once a week ... but it they were dead in 4 days and everything went moldy ... so weird. but i also don't think i had the right worms ... have to order special worms online ... apparently there are different species of earth worms. The earthworms from the garden are too tiny
The most common worm used to make worm castings is the red wiggler. They are voracious eaters and tend to swarm food, which prevents mold (because they eat all the food lol) and makes lots of castings.
