Holy crap you guys...I just read on the HCA Facebook page that the creator of this forum who I'm sure we have all spoken to at one point or another...or maybe even ordered things from...had passed away! This is what they had posted...
***ADMIN POST***
Today we learned that a long time member of the crabbing community, Sachem Smedley of Sach's Crab Page, has passed away.
One of our long-time members and admins, Rachel Hamilla (Wodesorel) of Hermit Crab Garden, offered these words earlier:
"A friend of Sach's posted on her timeline today that she has passed away. She leaves four young children behind. Her sister is creating a donation page to help with expenses, and I'll update once I know more.
For those of you who are new, you may only know of her group or have seen her name in passing, but at one time she was one of our most active members and a fiery, passionate crab keeper. For those of you who were here at the same time she was, she may not have been universally loved - being on the opposing side of a force to be reckoned with will do that! - but I would hope everyone saw how much love she had for crabbing and be able to find respect for her and compassion for her family at this time.
I didn't know her well, but we talked sometimes when the baby kept her up at night. She was an intelligent and kind woman, and a doting mother and sister.
I had some of the most epic arguments with her on here back in the day! I'm not sure how much was archived, but man we got ourselves into trouble with the previous Board of Directors.
At the time I was nothing but ticked, but over the years I came to miss those heated discussion as we started seeing eye to eye on things. I will miss her dearly."
I did not know Sach well aside from casual conversation, and do not feel that it would be appropriate for me to offer any words other than my condolences for her family and children.
We will be posting links to the fundraiser as soon as we have that information.
This breaks my heart. She was a very knowledgeable gal and helped a lot of people take much better care of these precious critters. My condolences go out to her family and friends especially her 4 young children.
