For @pleadingthefifth
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CRABBING- 5+ years
TANK # AND SIZE(S)- 120 Gallon
LID TYPE- Screen Lid with Plexiglass fitted to keep 85% of air from escaping (to maintain humidity)
SUBSTRATE USED- 5:1 Playsand and EE
HUMIDITY SOURCE- Bubbler Salt and Fresh water pools - Sphagnum moss pit (water it occasionally) & - occasional fresh water mist (very rare - but if humidity gets low, I do it.)
HEAT SOURCE- (2) 11 x 17 UTH on each end of the aquarium and (2) 11 x 17 on the back of the tank. all are covered in foam board and any revealed glass has foil lined boards to reflect the light/heat. The hooded lights on the tank also give off a tad bit of heat.
WHAT IS YOUR AVERAGE TEMP/HUMIDITY- day time around 82-86 heat and anywhere between 80-99% on humidity. When the humidity gets high, I provide more open space on the screen lid (pull back on the plexiglass). The evenings, the humidity remains the same but the temps drop to 82-84.
HOW DO YOU TREAT YOUR WATER- I don't. I buy ONLY Distilled bottled water.
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR SALT WATER- I follow the back of the Ocean salt box.
HOW MANY CRABS DO YOU HAVE,WHAT SIZES ARE THEY & HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD THEM- Without being specific to all 41 - I have about 4 jumbos (just smaller than a tennis ball), about 25 golf ball and the rest quarter or smaller. I have had the 4 jumbos almost the entire 5 years and only the quarter ones are within the last year.
WHAT SPECIES OF CRABS DO YOU HAVE- I have about 30 PPs, 10 E's and one that I know of that is a Ruggie. I hate to handle the E's too much to see if they are Ruggie.
WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR CRABS- All my food if from either my refrigerator, freezer, The Hermit Crab Garden or Crab Addicition Store...
WHAT TYPES OF HIDES/CLIMBS DO YOU HAVE- Cholla wood, coco huts, bird toy climbers, Aquarium trees, grape vine basket (all natural), moss pit, etc.
DO YOU HAVE AN ISOLATION TANK FOR SICK/INJURED/MOLTING CRABS-I have KK's of all sizes, 30 gallon long, 20 gallon long, (5) 10 gallons and a 75 gallon unused in the basement. I have one 11x17 UTH ready if needed.
HOW MANY EXTRA SHELLS AND WHAT SIZES DO YOU HAVE- I have HUNDREDS in all sizes but about 80 in the tank at any given moment. I have small as nickles for the small ones and HUGE ones (even up to 3 1/2" opening) for growing ones
WHAT SIZE CRABS DO YOU PREFER TO ADOPT- I prefer Jumbo - but I understand that some would say I am on the border of over crowding...though I have completely all successful molts and no cannibalism. I take whatever needs a home, I wouldn't say no to anything...so long as I don't feel I am over crowding.
*From Sach, can also foster and/or use the extra tanks.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE US TO KNOW- I don't need tanks, but I am always up for supplies that come with crabs. I can bring a KK to bring the crabs home in. I can drive up to an hour one way - I may have to wait for a weekend though if it's more than a 30 min drive, since I have a full time job and a family. I love my crabs with a passion I would have never thought of 6 years ago. I have shared this love with family and friends and continue to learn and grow with my other LHC loving community!
