I have 4 crabs, three small (penny size) and one medium (quarter size, or slightly bigger) Names: Miss Kay, Phil, Si and Jase. I have them for over a month. I have a 10 gallon tank with aquarium lid. I use a sand/coconut substrate mix, 6 inches deep. I mist daily, have 2 water dishes with sponges. I have a heating pad underneath on one side of tank. Temp is 72 and I do not know humidity. I am buying a gauge ASAP. I use fresh water and salt. Distilled and then aquarium salt. Brand is Aquarium. I feed them Pellt food from pet smart , brand is All Living Things. I have also fed them spinach, egg shells and broccoli. They have a coco-hut and Cholla wood to climb on. I have 5 small shells and 3 medium shells. I know now I need more and need to make sure they are properly sized.
I have made many mistakes and have been correcting them as I find information out. I realized there is A LOT of wrong info out there and also that the pet store workers have not given me correct info. I had my tank set up completely wrong from start to finish. I knew I had to act fast because I feared one if not all were ready to molt. I got everything I needed but was too late- Miss Kay did a surface molt. She seemed ok, I cut a liter bottle to surround her and put water near by. She began eating her exoskeleton and seemed alright. after a couple days, I decided to carefully move her and the others to a temp cage to get the proper tank set up. Once I got it set up, I moved them all back. The 2 other small crabs, Jase and Phil disappeared almost immediately under and Si did what he normally does and explored. I put an extra coco-hut in for Ms. Kay with a small water and food dish. I did this thinking she could have her own hut and wouldn't have to leave it so she could get stronger. I checked on her constantly and all seemed well. The last time I checked her I saw her upside down and her big claw next to her. I immediately got her out of there and got her in an ISO tank. She was still moving slightly. I have not touched her since so I can't tell is she is still alive. I assumed I should leave her and just watch her to see if there is any movement in the next couple of days. I feel HORRIBLE that I did this to her! I don't know what to do other than wait to see if she makes it. Is it possible she could survive this?? Please let me know if there is anything I can do as well as look over the info above to see if I need to change anything. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
