I remember a couple years ago, my uncle's friends went into the hermit crab "buisness".. he literally sold that Kritter keeper with some pebbles and two little small shells for food/water.. I never really thought much of it, but recently I found out he's starting up again and I now already have flashbacks if all the kids picking them up and dropping them when the come out of there nasty painted shells. ): I don't know how anyone can be so incompetent. I talked to him and it all went through one ear and out the other.. then he asked me to put his name out there to get him more buisness.. wrong person to ask. Sorry I'm just frustrated. Thanks for reading.
He's definetly the most unperseptive, close minded individuals I've ever delt with. Of course, I brought up how much more he could make in profit and instead of having to throw dead ones away before sombody purchases it, he could set it up right and have more live hemit crabs. Before I even finished I could tell it was going through one ear and out the other. He response was, "There just hermit crabs . . like fish they die in a week, that's why parents who don't want another responsibility get them." Unfortunately it was in a public setting and felt like I had an obligation to not continue disagreeing. He told me he's going to give me a ermit crab with a cracked shell, but hasn't contacted. I've called him twice, so I can just go pick the hermie up and help him out. If I had a shell at the time I would have given it to him to give to the hermit crab. ):
I simply told him he was completely ignorant to life itself, and left it at that. It's so sad though, literally I think I'm going to bring a setup to show him. At the end of the day at least I know I tried and didn't just walk away..

Next time tell him hermit crabs have been known to live 30+ years in captivity. I hate it when people don't listen, and just cause they're older think they are right. I hate it when they think hermit crabs are just "a fast buck" ugh!!
Unfortunetely, he did make a valid point when he said parents buy them so they don't have a commitment.. People need to be educated, from the people who harvest, to the petstore employee and all the way to the person who's buying the hermie.
That would be a good idea, but my purpose is to share factual information with him, not create frustration on both ends. By providing his info on the Internet that could increase buisness, ecspecially because his prices are dirt cheap.

You could always try and keep on him about doing it the right way, and if he keeps being stubborn about it call animal protection agencies and who ever else you can on him. We could also call on him, and I am sure people here would be willing to. Sometimes people need to be punished for doing something stupid before they even realize it was wrong.
