Does anyone know if this Woody Nightshade (toxic to humans, but ok for wild birds) is Ok for our crabs? Woody Nighshade ... I have this growing in our yard ... well the plant is in our yard and I keep having to cut it pack because I have a pet sitting business out of my home and don't want dogs that stay with us to eat it! The root is actually under my neighbours deck and therefore I cannot dig it out. But it's also growing like crazy behind the building where i work my part-time job. I figure I could perhaps put it to some good use.
The Site says it's only toxic to humans if we ingest it.

There are lots of things that are toxic to people but not crabs but the best way to tell...is to try! Crabs will not eat a plant that is toxic to them; they seem to know. Now, this doesn't mean that if they don't eat something it is bad for them, as they also only eat what contains the nutrients they need for their particular stage of molt phase they are in so you may have to try more than once. For example, I tried some ivy last year that grows on the tree in my front yard. It stayed in my tank all summer. They climbed all over it....but never nibbled it once.
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
I've given mine Pokeweed for well over a year now. It is toxic to humans, common house pets, and some parts are even poisonous to most birds. But! The crabs love it after it's been dried out (they won't touch it fresh) & there have been no ill effects.
So, give it a go. With & without berries. Fresh & dry. You never know what way they'll like something best.

Ok so I put some nightshade in both tanks (no berries) with leaves attached. We will wait and see what happens!! I don't think the berries come out till July/August so we'll try some with the berries at that point

So I took out the branch that was in the main tank, cause the leaves were falling off into their water supply, and i was worried that if the leaves were poisonous they would poison the drinking water! When I took the branch out to inspect it, I noticed there were areas of the bark on the branch that had been eaten away! so yay! I will have to clip some more from behind my work if I remember. I left the one in the exotics tank, since it's not hanging over the water supply.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
