Sweetie, it does happen to adults; I lost 2 this week myself and for one of the same reasons -over crowding in my tank.
I get your financial situation, believe me I do, but this may be time for you to make an adult decision and start re-homing some of your crabs since you won't have the funds to get bigger tanks any time soon. You could charge people a small re-homing fee for the crabs you get rid of and that can help pay to make a happier life for the ones you keep. I know it feels unfair to you, but it is also unfair to the crabs; they will keep dying and/or having surface molts and/or chirping in distress as long as they are not comfortable and in ideal conditions.

kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
