This is JUST a thought; I was thinking about feeding my hermies live fish. Like, going to petco getting some cheap fishes and just letting my crabs go wild with them. No, I don't have those massive side pools, I just know if I dropped a fish or two into a water dish my crabs would definetly notice and get it. Has anyone tried it? Mind you the bowl is small enough that the fish really could get away..
My PPs definetly frequent the fresh water bowl more than the salt water bowl, so I was thinking about hitting petco and grabbing two cheap fresh water fish and letting my hermies have a go. What fish would be suggested?

I find this cruel due the the fish dying slowly - it like getting your limbs ripped off while you still alive.... I would instead offer dead fish (or at lease, cut there spine so they die a painless dead or smash there heads so there brain gets squashed...)

I know what you mean since the water wouldn't be aerated, but if the crabs eat them as fast as they go in there (like @emberfusion has reported); they wouldn't have long and one could also add a bubbler to the pool & that would solve the problem because even if they have aerated water, they are going to still be eaten by a crab, so......

I don't have a problem with it. I see it as the fish serve a purpose. If it was just putting the fish in a small container just for the heck of it, then I could see that as cruel.
The rate my crabs go through them, I don't see it as anything other than live food.
I mean, people here feed live mealworms, bugs, etc. - why not fish too?
I started out with guppies, but they're expensive. Goldfish are full of fat and they're not suggested to be fed to turtles, but as a snack once in a while - I don't see them being harmful. (I mention turtles, because I have a couple and I've always been told "no goldfish - too fatty" on turtle forums)
What I do, though, is when I get fish to feed my crabs, I will set up a nice tank for them with what they need to survive. I will feed them for 2 weeks with different foods that I have for my clownfish that are full of different nutrients and what not. After two weeks, I'll toss them in with the crabs and they're gone within (I think the longest I've had 3+ fish living was about) 3 hours.
I always feed the fish before giving them to the crabs, because it's true when they say you are what you eat.

I know that @qdinky gets her grandson to collect them right out of her yard in Florida.
But speaking of French crabs, aussieJJDude Hubby just bought some escargot for me just for the shells They are an odd this type I have never seen before so if the crabs don't like wearing them, I will crush them up.

Try land snails! Mine go nuts over them... they love! the poop, plus the shells (as they are thin, so easy to munch and break) and they completely eat the whole snail... Maybe i have French crabs???
Where do you get land snails? Any specific breed? Do they thrive in the tank conditions if the crabs don't eat them?
I get mine in the garden, they are small with a shell and are under rocks etc. You can pobably find them in the woods too, but they love moisture, mine clean them up every time I put them in, Exotics as well as PP's only get the ones in the shells, the other kind are slugs ):
