Hi all,
I'm new here. I've owned hermit crabs since September 2009 and at the moment have approx. 16 crabs. Mostly PP's, 2 Straws and about 3 E's. I still have my original PP and my original E who have been with me right from the beginning. At the moment I have them divided into 2 tanks, but I'm looking for a 90gallon so I can combine all my crabbies.
My biggest crab is Hercules, she came to me as a re-homer with Speedy (second biggest crab). Hercules is the alpha of my tank. Her owner had her for 5 years before she came to live with us in December 09. We've had them ever since. Hercules is a Jumbo PP, about the size of a baseball. And Speedy, her second in command, is only slightly smaller. I often have trouble telling them apart after shell changes.
Herb is my original PP and third largest. I would say he's midway between Medium and Large size. Though he is in a large shell. This guy is so friendly. You've never met a friendlier crab. I don't take them out often but when I do, he climbs up to my shoulder and hides in my hair. He and Sass are best friends. Sass is my original E. I've had Sass since October 2009, and at one point they were the only 2 crabs in my tank. They still hang out together. Flash is another PP i"ve had since 2009. He got his name because I'd see him and then I wouldn't. He's also a Flash molter. Up in no time at all!
My tiniest crab is Creeper. He's an E. So active, loves to climb and be at the highest point possible.
I also have 2 Straws. Both are in their second homes. Red was owned by a lady who had no idea what she was doing. She had 2 Straws in a tiny little critter keeper with shells that were too small, and no salt water. Not to mention gravel as the terrain. Unfortunately the other crab Red came with died after I had them for 2 years. Still not sure what happened, but went MIA during a molt. My other Straw is Ziggy. He's also our newest crab. Also a "rescue". His owner told us she never saw him, and he was always burried. Once I brought him back to our place, he went under for a month, and came up nicely molted. Since then I haven't "not" seen him. He's very active, and love to climb and EAT and he's frequently in one of the water pools.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone here and having some crabtacular discussions.
