Just rescued 3 pps this morning. Had to buy a tank (think it's around 15 gal) but it's deeper than my 20 so I may switch my E's into it so I have more space to do a 2nd floor. pp's look healthy and good coloring considering she's had them 2 mo with no salt water, no humidity and sometimes a heat lamp on them. They are busy in ISO changing shells, sucking up salt water and besides minerals and wormcastings I put scrambled eggs and pumpkin in for them. Paid $30 but got a brand spankin new tat with screen lid, 2 new clip on lamps one with day bulb and one with night, nice big flat shells to feed on, 2 sponges, giant piece of cork, also another big piece of wood that will be great for propping up one of my corner shower shell shops, a few shells (so small that I'll have to give them to the new E's, some food that went in the trash. So that now makes a dozen pp's for me.....enough (: The ladies comment in first email was " Thought they were unique and different, but they don't do anything" I new I had to rescue them after that, these guys are all over this tank, they have lots of energy! tried to check for hairy legs, but these guys are smalls, so harder to see....my eyes are bad so we shall see, if she had them for 2 months I'm sure they need to molt, so will move them into big tat, but wated 24 hrs + in shallow sand of ISO to get lots of saltwater and food in them.
Wow these 3 pp's are making themself at home! Slowly brought temp up to 80 deg. and humidity is around 82, they have all taken turns sucking up the salt water and now they are feasting on scrambled eggs and pumpkin.....had them changing shells too, bet I have some crabbies ready to molt after a few days of all these goodies and good temps (:
Oh I'm like you arkansascrabber, I'm having a crabulous time with these new crabs....just so love how they go from one thing to another pigging out.....gotta control this rescuing, but it's hard when you know you can make these little guys so happy. 2 are smalls, but I think the one in the long skinny shell would only fit in the tiny category.....so excited I have itty bitties! Think this is why I miss the E's so much, got the cutest little ones then never get to see them....hope if they are molting they do ok as E's are really cute when they are tinys.
yes i sit for hours and watch them, the pp tat is pet sand but i have the ruggs, straws and E's too watch, they all are eating the sub mixes and castings and minerals like piggies,im sure the rugggs will disappear soon as they get fat, lolrhett has cloudy eyes, hes up and down, wont be long till he settles in for a molt, poor sachman will be alone.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
