Oh crabsolutely! First off, all animals can sense changes in the weather (even inside the house). Hermit crabs carrying water around with them makes them especially sensitive to the phases of the moons and the tides as well. Living near the beaches; they would naturally be even more sensitive to oceanic storms. I actually watch my crabs to tell me the weather more than I do the TV usually
That's why I'm worried about Hurricane Sandy.
My exotics started hiding 3-4 days ago; Daiquiri even before that. Like, he's up cuz I see him peeking through the bushes like a weirdo & he only just came up anyway. But Sr, & the other Es that are up have been staying back in the shadows more the last few days and Shortcake stopped being so athletic yesterday,hh.
As you all may remember, I had 95% of my PP colony up & around just a few days ago. Then I would start catching moments where the only crabs I could see were clearly sleeping or just hunkering down. I've still seen all those guys out, but less at a time compared to normal. That's why I was worried.
Now, that being said, I know that at least right now the weather in my area must be a little bit calmer since I've had Gamera & some other guys back out and even a little more activity in the exotics' tank. Margarita (the biggest of the 3 smaller straws) even put in a skittish appearance last night and is observing from the dark hut in the back corner right now.
But yeah, I noticed that my crabs could sense the weather in the beginning and so I know when the crabs suddenly act completely different in both tanks....big weather's coming
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
Then we need a storm down here, because other than the straws everyone is down under (: We have a beautiful full moon and usually the moon seems to effect them, but nothing ): not use to pp's all hiding out, maybe they are scared of the pumpkin I put in. (:
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
