I know this is an old thread, but my question is related so I figured it made sense to ask it here.
I'm trying to figure out the whole lighting thing for the crabs. Right now on my 10 gallon I have a Zilla incandescent dual bulb fixture like this. www.petstore.com/Zilla_Incandescent_Dual_Bulb_Fixture_for_Reptile_Light_Heat_(Black_20_Inch)_Reptile_Light_Fixtures-Coralife-ES67047-RPLILI-vi.html I'm using an Exo Terra Sun Glo bulb during the day and an Exo Terra Night Glo bulb at night. This light has dual cords so I have them on a timer. The light is my heat source.
For my 55 upgrade I was planning on using 2 fixtures like above. During the day I was going to use either the Day Glo or a Daylight blue bulb. Is one or the other better? Then I thought it was important to have UVB as well so I was going to get one of the fairly expensive flourescent coil bulbs. Then at night I was planning to use 2 of the Night Glo bulbs. I really like those to be able to watch the crabs at night.
So after reading here and on other boards I'm totally confused. There has been a lot of that in the 2 months I've been doing this! Do they need UVA? Do they need UVB? What are the best light bulb options that provide heat? I already have a spare fixture like above so I sort of want to use those 2. Then when I have the chance I can pick up a third to use for my ISO (which will be the 10 gallon). I like being able to have the day and night bulbs on the timer.
