My aunt and uncle are huge animal lovers. And somone is going to give them hermit crabs and they have so many animals they don't want any other animals so they are giving them to me. I'm pretty sure it's a pair, but I don't know it could be more they said "hermit crabs" so I don. Know. I'm lucky because I just upgraded to a 60gal so I can get many more hermit crabs. I'm so exited I hope they get them soon, but sadly there probably in painted shells. No worries I have tons of good shells. Now my 29gal is my ISO tank For molters and my 10gal is My ISO for new hermit crabs because I only get either one or two new hermit crabs at once. I'm going to ask about the hermit crabs everyday till they get them because I love getting hermit crabs. I'll admit I'm addicted to hermit crabs, but Arn't we all though? Well, I thought I'd let everyone know of this exiting news. Thanks for reading.
They will be lucky to get you as the new owner. I dont iso my crabs.. I do a good look over and bath and put them in my tank. The only time i use a iso is if a crab is hurt in any way that i need to keep other crabs away from them.

Aw. Thank you sue. That just made my day. Well, my whole family loves the way I mantain my hemit crab tank. They all can't keep hermit crabs alive for over a month and I tend to have mine for years. and yes I teach them and make them care sheets I think the lose intrest pretty quick. I actually just started ISO mine because lot of people reccomend it, but I will just keep watch instead ISO new ones. Thank you sue.
Iso is something some do. I just dont. Its up to you. It works well for some. I just find it one more adjustment for the crabs so i like to put them right into the new home after a good check for any kind of mites or problems.. I dont think using a iso is a bad thing. I do keep a iso tank ready in case i need it. Its totaly up to you. Blessings, sue

Honestly, I feel the same way. Hermit crabs go through so many changes there better off going in the main tank right after a good check and bath, but some people like ISO and it may waork for others. Everyone has there own ways of carding for there hermit crabs, but I rather put them in the main rather than ISO. I do also have an ISO for molters and if needed a new crab. actually my "crab sitter" watching my hermit crabs when I went on a trip one year and two crabs molted and she had no idea and they never got ISO and they are still living so some hermit crabs are okay without ISO. Just thought I'd let you know. Thank you.

I am inclined to agree with Sue. Let me tell ya a little story.
I haven't been crabbing (this time around) for very long. When I started, I didn't ISO new guys because I didn't know I "should". Then, when I saw that some people did....I still didn't because I only had one tank and was finding it hard enough to keep my temp/humidity right in one tank; let alone another.
Here is my theory/opinion on ISOs. I don't think they are usually necessary and whether a crab is sick, injured or molting, having to mess with them and move them likely adds stress. I also think they like to stay where there familiar "smells" are and having a separate ISO doesn't accomplish this.
When I have felt like an ISO was helpful, I use the 2 liter method. I find this to be much less disruptive and think we can be too helpful if we aren't careful.
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
CONGRATS!!! I wanted to say I do not ISO my new crabs either. I would ISO them and then they would dig down. It just did not work for me. If I get a streaker or injury I place them in a plastic bin in the main tank. Most of the time they stay for a while and climb out. New crabs are always exciting......Enjoy and share pics! ;D
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
