This is Thich. He came to me as an adoptee of sorts, the lady at the store just gave him to my kid. She said he had been there for quite sometime. Now the conditions at the store are not good and I don't buy from them because of it. It is bone dry, open air tank, with lots of crabs and lots of people messin with them. Oh and all the food is FMR pellets. He recently came up from his first molt with me. I took him out to inspect him a few days after only to find he was deformed now. He wasn't before. I'm attributing his bad molt to poor diet and conditions. I've been crabbing for over a year and have had countless molts so I don't think it's anything I've done wrong. He molted at the same time as Amelia and they were only a few inches apart at the bottom of the tat and she look BEAUTIFUL. So here's his pic:
Sorry for the poor quality. As you can see though he's not just right. His two rear walking legs are bent at the tips with one sticking almost straight up. His BP has dents in it and he doesn't fold into his shell properly. As far as function he's gotten lucky. He's slow but can eat, drink, dig, and climb just fine. I don't worry about his safety because his tank mates are all pretty mellow. But again he is rather slow walking.
So I wanted to post this so you could all see the importance of good conditions and what can occur if things go wrong. Here's hoping Thich goes back down soon for another molt and hopefully a good one this time!
