I still can't grasp that he breeds crabs! Just sounds so time consumming and complicated. This of course is comming from someone who couldn't even get sea monkeys to grow! lol Can't wait to hear more about your visit.
Wow, what a day.. Im tired but home. Mel congrads my friend.. Are you sitting down? You are the owner of a new unnamed species! Im not even going to spoil the other suprises.. I just thought I would make you knock over the mail guy to get at him...lol
Im so flipping happy for you. Wait till you see and meet him..and his friends.. I can not wait for you to see them! I got to see 100s of thousands of pups today! I helped scoop out Brevi pups! almost microscopic but more like the size of sea monkeys.. It was amazing day of work that i can not consider work.. I will be sleeping hermit crabs tonight. I got a few new additions too. I dont want to mention them untill you get your babies..
Ok i cant wait any longer.. Im going to let Mel tell you about the new species.. however I will say that I too have one and it is the sweetest thing ever.. I got 6 new babies.. One of the new cross breed, 4 new brunies and one lovely large Male Brevimanus rosseus aka DNA proven Pink Indo. He is hot pink and lovely. Bobs home was such a paradise. He lives on a butterfly farm that is hugh and lovely. The different plants he grows are amazing. Now i want a paw paw tree. The crabs love the fruit of the paw paw tree. I tasted one, to me it was like a soft mango but ive heard it explained as a custard flavor or a cross between a banana and a pineapple. The tecture wasnt firm but mushy but i liked it. My son liked it too. I was able to see newly hatched Hermit crab pups.. amazing. I got to help scoop them from the water dish into the new tanks that they will spend some time in before they become ready for land. 100s of thousands of pups.. I took some photos that i have to photo shop to get them to be the right size and take out some background that takes away from the subject. The coconut crabs were amazing. Mini one of bobs female coco nut crabs was clicking to us. Bob clicked back and she kinds came to him. As Bob walkes around the crab house the crabs seem to follow his voice. Some of the new things i got to see were the Chocholate Zebra sunset violas.. amazing. Striped legs with sunset coloring. I hope we will have some photos on here of them soon too. As for learning, wow i learn so much each time I talk with Bob. One thing that i had been doing wrong I am working on correcting and I figure if i pass on the info then maybe someone else wont pick up my bad habit. When holding the crabs I often held them upside down to move them from one place to another. This can be bad and the reason is if the crab has sand, food or any particals on the front of him they could fall back into the gills of the crab. Food falling into the gills could be sticky and damage gills sand can be sharp, and other objects that could possibly be on the front of the crab really shouldnt be in the gills. When taking a crab out to play its a good idea to give him quick rinse to get any items off of the front of him that could fall into the gills. How Bob showed me to do this it to hold the crab in the upright position, slightly tipped back so you dont spill any of the shell water and spray dechlornated water above him so it rains down on the crabs. The crabs seemed to like this and it makes hold them much safer for the delicate gills. ok, ill go see how my photos came out because im sure you all will enjoy them!
Wow, just wow... about your experiences and about what is roaming around in my tanks now ;D ! I have a new Brunnie who is spry and cute as can be, I just love the ones that are dark like this one. I got a new Blue ;D the sweetest thing ever, she has explored and eaten in her new tat hehe. Then the cross breed which is the absolute best of both worlds he is Brunnie and Blueberry a BrunBerry LOL. Lovely color slightly blue green like a Brunnie with the exo texture of the Blueberry and sort of a mixed temperament. Sweet like the Blueberry and spry like the Brunnie! Love them all so much :-) each one is a unique representation in some way and I am just smitten!
Sue I can't thank you and Bob enough, and all the hard work you put in is just incredible, but now you have had the experience of a lifetime, can't wait for pictures!
The brunberry, i like that name..lol. is so cute, its legs are different from one side to the other, not like some types of crabs where they have matching sets of legs. The eyes are so cool The top of the eye where normaly it would be a black oval on the brunies had a top edge of a yellow.. Pictures to come..
The butterflies at Bobs are more of a butterfly farm then a garden, you can not see from one end to the other rows of trees and lovely plants that the butterflies will lay eggs on. Host plants. They also have flowers to feed on. All around his land are host plants for the butterflies.. they are all very lovely. Lots of them laying eggs. They will land on you and are not afraide of people.
Bob had lots of mamma crabs holding eggs. They are so sweet little mammas protecting the eggs. I even got to see a mamma letting her eggs into the water because they were ready to hatch!. Ok, im back to cropping photos to add to this thread and we can start a new species thread! I also got a photo of mini the coco nut crab but its just to dark. One of the jumbo PP crabs photo came out pretty good, ill post that one.. I have a small photo of a chocholate sunset zebra viola too. That one will be on my some day list. Something that can go in the viola tank safely..They are lovely..
ok here are some photos.. First lets start with the new species that is a cross between Coenobita Bruneus aka brunie and Coenobita purpureus aka blueberry- My guy needs a name and i think im going to go with Count Brunberry..He is a male.
This is my (or should i say Sara Rosa's my females ) new male Brevimanus rosseus aka Pink indo He needs a manly name.. Due to being pink.. I havent come up with one yet..if you have a sugestion i could use some.
Last but not least the Coenobita Bruneus aka Brunies The first one has a shell that is so cool, ive never seen one like it before it almost like shurbert. so its name is shurbert. I didnt check the sex of these little guys or girls..The other 3 need names.
They are gorgeous! I love that 'Count Brunberry' That is a great name hehe. Hmmm good manly names for the pink boy, Kale it is Hawaiian meaning strong and manly, it is also nice and exotic :-). My Brunberry is Ebb as in Eb tide or the Ebb and flow of things.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
