ELHC has had success with breeding in capitivity. They also have off spring that are not just new but years old. I know that some of the off spring have also found homes with other owners!.. Cross breeding has actually happened just by the types of crabs being able to be together. In the wild you mainly find one type of crab in a area. In captivity you may have different species together and with that option cross breeding has happened. I know that soon ELHC will be making there site have much more information on this. I just cant wait to see it all. I hope to see Bob soon to get more information. He is a wealth of information and I hope to be a sponge to take in as much as I can again.. Visit his site here www.exoticlandhermitcrabs.com/Default.asp
This is epic news! Bob is up to some amazing stuff can't wait to hear more. Captive bread is a very good for many reasons, not just us crabbers, but the crabs in the wild will be harvested less and their numbers will stay nice and healthy.

I too am really excited to see all the great stuff Bob has done. He is the best crab resource out there and we are honored to have him as a member here at SCP, even if we know he doesn't have time for the internet ;D Because there has been so much arguing all over the net; regarding Bob & ELHC, I wanna throw a couple of things out for the "sharks in the waters".
Bob has been crabbing for more than 46 years; this is longer than anyone else on any other forum or crab page out there. Bob has also co-discovered a new species; verified through DNA. He plans on publishing much of his data this fall.
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
humm i own two species that he has discovered.. and i know of more that are not mentioned for sale yet. He also has done studdies in over 60 countries. a great source of knowledge. He is willing to share it even though people want to doubt it and want it in writting before he is able to do that. Im honored to know him. Its sad for those that dont enjoy the news without doubts. I even know of babies that are years old and ready for new homes. Im sure he will have problems parting with his babies.. My thoughts are continue the research, dont let people wanting to see it in writing stop or slow you down. Your one amazing guy. Blessings, Sue
I love the fact of captive breed crabs! I think Bob is an amazing man and ;D deserves all the credit for everything he has done! I would love to see pics of his babies. If there is link please let me know!
