Hi everyone My little sister she went to the beach and bring to home 8 hermit crabs, I dont want they to die so I bought 10 gallon tank(I know I need a bigger tank for them but I till take care 2 guinea pigs and hamster) I try my best to buy everythings they need. Right now they only have sand, drink water, pellet food and some shells. I know that I missing alot of things I still order on amazon now. After 2 days I put them in the tank I saw one of them didn't move anymore I want to take him out of the shell and burry him but I afraid he still alive. One thing I still confuse that I live in Florida so does I need a heat light for them. I just order 4watt heater I did check some heat light bulb but they only have 60watt im afraid that my tank to small so the heat will burn them. Sorry for my grammar Im not native American so im not good at writting English. Thank you every one
Hey...unfortunately there is nothing you can do for the one you buried. But in the future...never remove a crab from a shell. Also...leave them alone for a few days and wait to be 100% certain they have passed.
I will tell you the setuo you have going now is pribably going to cause stress on the crabs so unless it is fixed up soon you may experience more deaths. Hermit crabs need at least 10 gallons of spacer PER CRAB so you are looking at needing at least 80 gallons (well 70 gallons if you lost one)
Never feed them pellet food...it is full of toxic garbage. You can feed them foods from around your home that you find on safe food lists.
If you are on Facebook I am going to refer you to my group Care & Keeping of Hermit Crabs. Unfortunately the owner of this page passed away a few years back so it is not monitored. I just happened to dtill get notifications for new posts. But i took the knowledge i learned here and teamed up with some gals with even more extensive knowledge to form thT group. We have TONS of files for setting up tanks and safe foods etc.
Help! I am not sure if my crab has passed or is molting! He buried in the substrate, not very far down but enough that his shell was buried. He’s been buried now for about a week now, but I’m not sure if he is molting or has passed. Any advice? Please?
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
