i have 3 purple pinchers in a 30 gallon and i was wondering how i should keep track of them because one just changed his shell is there any way you think i could mark their shell because they're kind of hard to tell apart i thought of making a little engraving on the top of their shell, but what about when they change shells? also i'm worried about hurting them or their shell if i try to do that i know i cant use paint any ideas?

Nope, there really is no way other than with fewer crabs it's easier. Between shell changes, growth & color change the only often "sure-fire" way is if they have something that stands out in their personalities. With fewer, knowing their sex (and then checking again to see who it is) can help, but isn't always reliable unless you're 100% sure the first time. It's one of the fun but frustrating things about them
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna require massive shells according to how long they've been down!
4/1 - Stained crab is a boy! 1/5 - Got a 'sick crab' pack from Nat. I'm very impressed, it's a large pack so will feed all crabs! 30/6 - My new hygros have arrived! The big tank is 29degrees/81humidity. The little tank has the same temperature but 86humidity.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
