I personally believe that based on what I have heard people say: how they require about 10-12" of sand, need large tanks for roaming, and attack and kill each other if conditions aren't to their liking, Ecuadorians are not for beginners. I personally would not recommend them to someone looking to get their first hermit crab. I do not own any E's but I would highly recommend PP's. My crabs have done fairly well. In fact, Timon went down to molt over a week ago.

Oh you are absolutely right; we don't recommend ANY exotic species for beginners and in fact suggest having had a tank established & running with good conditions & no unexplained deaths for at least a year before trying exotic species. The PPs are hardier & able to deal with more human mistakes than the other species.
