Do you think if I got some paint(non toxic of course) and dipped only the tips of there legs in it and let them walk on a canvas then immediately wash it off if it would be okay. Ive done it with guinea pigs but hermit crabs are different so please give your opinion.

I wouldn't because paints labeled "non-toxic" have never been tested with hermit crabs, we don't know if it could absorb through their exo & the stress of being out of their tank wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.
≈19 clypeatus, 4 perlatus & 8 compressus in 4 tanks
Food coloring should be ok. I don't like the idea of taking them out, but if she can put the canvas in their tank and doesn't mind sand over the canvas as well...it's not the easiest thing to do, they're not the tidiest creatures in existence and shifting humidity for them's not the best idea. Seriously, I wouldn't bother. It's too dangerous for them, and too much effort for you.
4/1 - Stained crab is a boy! 1/5 - Got a 'sick crab' pack from Nat. I'm very impressed, it's a large pack so will feed all crabs! 30/6 - My new hygros have arrived! The big tank is 29degrees/81humidity. The little tank has the same temperature but 86humidity.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
