First, I made the huge mistake of going to a pet store and purchasing a PP before I did any research into how to take care of one. I thought the owner of the store would guide me in the right direction of what to purchase. I bought a crappy plastic home and then spent some time that afternoon online finding out that I had made a huge mistake. I immediately went out and purchased a 10 gallon tank, eco-earth, a heat pad, cork tree climbing board, and a hut. I was following the recommendations found on a you tube video. I built the home that night and put "Debbie"(my son's name for him) into the tank and he immediately buried himself in the dry Eco-Earth. I know now that the dry earth is completely the wrong thing to use and I want to redo his substrate using the proper ratio of sand/eco-earth. He has been in the tank 2 days. The first night he was in there, I saw that he had surfaced and had been in the water bowl (I did use un-chlorinated water). But last night, he didn't surface to get food (cut up apples, tomatoes) or water. I know that I made a big mistake by putting the eco-earth in there dry (even though I have been misting the tank to try to keep the humidity up). I would like to remove the substrate and start over, but I am afraid to look under the eco-earth for him. I don't want to stress him anymore, and I am also concerned that he might have started molting? I have been reading non-stop for two days on how to care properly for the crab. I am looking for a little guidance on how to right my wrongs. Should I try to look for him in the eco-earth, move him and set up the tank right or should I just leave him alone until he surfaces. Thank you for your help.
