I have had a hermit crab for about two years now (actually 1 year and 8 months) his name is Crab Norris. Last night I got him two new friends, (something I've tried to do twice in the past, but Norris' intentions have been to tear them out of their shells and try them on for a few days- he's always returned to his own shell though?). When I got home with his friends he was buried and probably making an attempt at molting (he's never been much of a digger).
My hesitation now is to plop his friends into his cage. I'm worried about a fight right after Norris surfaces; or worse one of the new guys digging down and messing with him when he's so vulnerable.
For now I have the new two in a different habitat, but when would you suggest I do my crabby integration?
How many extra shells do you have? I would put tons of shells in and wash and change them every couple days.....this will maybe distract him.....also I would give the new ones a bath, sometimes washing them good makes introductions better.....how do they compair in size to Norris? Are they smaller?

Glad you were able to post @apremo. I had actually answered this last night, but I guess the board pooped out on me, hh.
My thought is that we need to figure out what caused Crab Norris to attack his former tank mates before adding any new friends; if it were only about the shells, he'd keep them. I take it these previous friends were killed?
To determine what could be causing this, we need to know about his home & living conditions. Please fill out the Help Template as completely as you can since the more information you provide, the more answers we can provide.
