I'd like to know how I can keep my sea salt from hardening. It has turned into a big block of salt, it is like a big brick now! I have to scrape it for a while with a spoon just to get enough loose salt to mix up a batch of salt water for my Hermit Crabs.

I've been told this happens when too much humidity gets into it (like if you don't close it all the way), but I had a bag that was righ above my heat vent do the same thing. I just use a butter knife, spoon handle or ice cream scoop & just break it up. it also helps if you squeeze the bottom of the bag. Like, if you use IO, take it out of the box so it can spread more in the bag. If you use Oceanic, squeeze the bottom of it.

It does happen when it gets in contact with too much humidity. There are probably other causes, but this is the most common.
What I do is I buy a big 55gal bag of salt (I need more because I have a saltwater tank set up and it's not just for my crabs) and divide it up into 10gal baggies. I end up putting the bags in like 4 different bags all sealed up. It keeps the salt really fresh and I never have a problem with it clumping up.
when I get new salt I grab a box of sandwich bags and put 1/2 cut in each bag, and every 5-10 bags goes into another larger freezer bag. When I'm ready to make salt water I just grab a baggie, cut the corner and unload it in. Your salt will never go hard again.
kitty: Not much activity in my tank. One morning I got up and it looked like a tornado went through it. Water bowls tumbled, food dishes upside down. Fixed it all up and have been waiting eversince. ! Nothing. DARN !!
