Please read these before posting. Posting acknowledges you accept and agree to abide by the group rules as laid out below. Repeated breach may result in being removed or banned from the group.
These are the rules for SCP (Sach's Crab Page). This is my page and I created it specifically to not be like some of the other pages I have seen out there.
These rules apply to the chat room, Facebook like page, Hermit Crab Education & Care Group on Facebook, forum and YouTube channel. These rules apply whether you are 12 or 112; period. I will not set in stone a warning system, as I prefer to deal with each situation on an individual basis.
I do not mind if you put a link in your signature as long as it is to sites that don't include inappropriate material. Use good judgement here.
(forum) I do not mind if you advertise your own personal site, as long as it does not become excessive or compete with the SCP store and I ask that you reciprocate and put a link to my page on yours if it is a crab-related site. If you PM staff, I can also put your link in the Classifieds, where it will have a permanent spot.
(Fb Group) In order to advertise anything (whether yours or someone else's) please get permission from an admin first and include "POSTED WITH PERMISSION FROM...." in the post.
Please DO NOT advertise any crab supply tictail/Etsy/Ebay stores belonging to anyone outside the group as this competes with the SCP store & your fellow members.
DO NOT advertise any other crab Facebook groups. *The exceptions to this rule are the UK Hermit Crab Keeper Group and The Australian Land Hermit Crab Care Group (Coenobita Variabilis).
Please do not post or share any links to sites selling things that have been determined to be dangerous or or promoting unsafe practices or products; this includes (but is not limited to) Kritter Keepers, painted shells, bad care info or items like preserved animals.
No advertising anything without prior permission & stating which staff member granted permission in your post.
I do not want to see any inappropriate language on my page. Those cuss words considered "minor" will be okay, but I don't want to see any of the BIG cuss words on here. I am putting faith in everyone and not using the "censor" feature, so let's not abuse it. If you post inappropriate language, it will be deleted or you will be asked to edit it.
Do not post videos, articles or other material that includes bad language or inappropriate material either. Children use these pages also & we want it to be a friendly place for every one.
I absolutely will not tolerate any content that is racist, sexist, or overtly sexual. This is not the place for that and I may decide to ban you immediately if you choose to engage in that.
I will also not tolerate any behavior on boards, in the group or privately that causes other members to feel uncomfortable, harassed, intimidated, bullied, discriminated against, singled-out or ganged-up-on.
If you are found to be blocking ANY member of staff, you will be removed & banned immediately as this hampers our ability to help all members.
If you feel someone is in violation of the rules and/or feel uncomfortable with someone, PM a staff member-do not try to approach them yourself publicly or privately & do not engage in an argument on the board or in the group.
This is an educational entity, not a place to beg for free supplies, so don't do it. Period. You may post in the Crab Supply Swap if you have comparable items to offer in trade.
No politics or religion on the public boards either. You are welcome to discuss these things with each other through PM, but not on the board or in the group.
I welcome opinions, even strong ones, but if you get nasty with someone, I'm liable to boot you immediately, so don't push your luck. Keep on the topic, don't make it personal, or I'll make you gone. Stuff like that is exactly what I was getting away from when I made this page.
Try to keep it all crab-related unless in PM or chat. I haven't made a non-crab talk section yet, so there really is no place for it.
If there is evidence that you are being dishonest with me or other members, etc, (about your crabs, tanks, conditions, behavior, knowledge of rules, etc) I will likely warn you first, but depending on the severity/circumstances you could get banned.
There is absolutely NO recruiting of members, publicly or privately, to another group or forum, like page, YouTube channel, etc
*The exceptions to this is the regionally-specific The Australian Land Hermit Crab Care Group (Coenobita Variabilis) on Facebook.
Please do not link to other crab-themed sites/forums/groups/YouTube channels in helping another member (such as DIYs, food lists, etc) unless you were first unable to find similar material on SCP, The Australian Land Hermit Crab Care Group (Coenobita Variabilis) or the Australian Land Hermit Crabs Bred & Raised In Captivity Fb Page. There aren't many topics we haven't covered & so we prefer to keep our traffic with us.
When reading questions/posts, please expand & read all comments before posting; reinforcing something already said is fine, but knowing if the original poster has acknowledged the advice is often helpful & avoids confusion & feelings of being bombarded.
Try to put your questions in their appropriate boards on the forum and posts in the group so as not to cause confusion or clutter up the boards. We have a search feature better than any I have seen on other boards; don't be afraid to use it.
When asking a crab question (especially in an emergency), try to include as much information as you can about your tank conditions, diet, etc or better yet, fill out or template. This will make it easier for someone to answer your questions in a timely manner. If you don't answer fully & honestly we may not even bother & you get warned or suspended or even banned.
If you don't get an answer right away, please do not spam the board/group and post the same question in several places.
If you become argumentative, snippy or have a negative attitude when speaking to people, you will receive a warning as soon as we are made aware of it; if it's deemed bad enough you may be removed without warning for cause.
DO NOT delete posts; even your own. Every post could be a learning experience for future members; leave it to staff to determine what needs removed.
(Forum)You may also want to read Proboards' terms of service. (You agreed to them when you registered, but I bet you didn't read them.) www.proboards.com/tos.html
Obviously you are free to go make whatever sites/blogs/forums/groups you'd like; the internet is out there for everyone after all. But DO NOT ask people on SCP to join and you are not allowed to use ANY copyrighted material without prior permission and credit.
If I find out you are using my info on your "site" or in your group without permission or credit, I will ban you; period. All info on SCP is protected under copyright & owned by me. Posts made in the group also fall under the umbrella of protection as SCP property.
If you are using your same username on other boards/groups & giving out bad/incorrect info or being nasty to people, I will warn you-I don't want ANYTHING or ANYONE even loosely associated with SCP to be associated with wrong info/bad care advice or bad behavior. If the first offense is deemed bad enough you may be removed without warning for cause.
If I find out you are IN ANY WAY making SCP look bad, trashing us/my policies, the site or my members on another site or in another group, I will ban you.
If you do anything anywhere online that could reflect badly on SCP, you risk getting banned and potential charges for libel as well.
If you repeatedly refuse to follow the good advice given to you (and especially if you continue to complain about problems that could be solved by listening), you may be suspended or even banned; none of us are here to waste our time on people who just want the attention.
In summation, these rules are subject to change at any time, but I will notify you if I change anything. I ultimately have the final say on rules, violations and membership, so be respectful. My name is behind everything on this page & in the group, YT channel, etc, so I take it very seriously & will not tolerate any negativity.
Have fun!
Crabtastically yours, Sach
