Thanks so much! I'm not real sure how old Shelly is, he's about half dollar size. We rescued 2 of them when some kids were done with them. Mom said they had had them for almost a year. We've had them for about 6 months and each has molted pretty much monthly since than. They were on those hermit crab pellets but I switched them to some of the Hermit Crab Patch's foods and supplements.
Yes, it is screen. I've heard of plastic wrap around the lid so I will give the other stuff a try. Is there a better lid I should look for? I don't want them to suffocate so I will try anything!!
The tank heater is under the tank on the very end. Where can I get the salt water mix? I'll google it but if you have a trusted source, I'd love to know. The substrate is mostly EE but I saw through your files that you recommend mostly sand so I will switch it as soon as the one is done molting.
We have 3 crabs, one is tiny from Petco and the other is fairly large. He's about the size of my palm. I'll start looking for a 20 gallon. We had the old 10 from lizards I had in the past.
Shelly seems to be doing fine, still whitish, hoping he will bury and molt? He's hiding in their turtle shell at the moment but I did see him moving around the tank last night.
I'm appalled at how people can just throw animals away even if they seem to be not as "important" as dogs or cats. It's still a life. We have several animals, totaling 14 atm, and only one was not a rescue.
