So I have finally gotten around to starting my project! My goal is to build a tower to place over one half of my 55 gal to increase climbing room. (Please excuse the messy house, I was working by a corner where we moved furniture that has been sitting there for probably 20 years and it's dusty and I was too lazy to clean it first! Same thing in the kitchen, we are having out kitchen redone this week and that's why we moved a bunch of furniture out)
Here's the plexi glass I bought. It looks blue since it still has the protective plastic on it. I bought 2- 24 inch x 48 inch.
First, I marked where I wanted to cut the plexiglass. The dimensions for the long side is 24x24 and the shorter side and the top is 12x24.
I marked three spaces with permanent marker, and then used the tape measure to draw a line where I wanted to cut.
Here's after I used the cutter on the line:
I then broke it against the edge of a table which was the directions on the cutter packaging. It didn't break how I wanted, but I will make do.
Gluing three sides together. I peeled the blue protective sheet away from the corners.
Here's the glue I am using. Aquarium silicone on the inner part and silicone (no mold inhibitors) on the other part.
Hopefully going to glue the outer edges tonight and get the top part on. Tomorrow I have to figure out how I want to attach the front because I want to make a hinged door for easy access.
Edit:
Glued the top on. There is a space because I want to have my UVB light on the top of the colomn. Bought some mesh to fit over the hole and will put the aquarium light fixture on top of that.
Here I was testing the fit on the tank before attaching the front. Had to auto fix the color, but atleast you can see it now! Getting super excited about finishing now!
And here it is back in the kitchen trying to glue the hinges on. This is the only part I am worried about, but I can always undo it by peeling off the silicone if need be and redo it.
