During my time of crabbing, I've come to really like a few places in particular to order good food for my crabs. Thought I'd share some of those places with you.
Kili's Kibbles
Kilimanjaro is very big on hermit crab nutrution. Everything he sells is organic and nutritious.
I put in an order for a few different things yesterday. I'll update you guys on what my crabs enjoy best when it gets here!
SueBee's Etsy
Sue sells some really great treats and supplement.
She also has some plastic leaf mats for sale which make good climbing toys for the crabs.
The Hermit Crab Patch
Lots of good treats here, though, I will suggest you stay away from anything you can buy commercially (like the hermit crab variety bites, for instance).
My crabs are particularly fond of the Pumpkin flavored Instant Hermit Crab Treats and the chia plants. Never forget chia. Hermies love them. You can throw the seeds right in your tank or add a cutesy little chia pet and see how far it grows before your crabs eat it all.
Mountain Rose Herbs
This site is fantastic. They sell pretty much any herb you could ever want to try out in your tank.
Personally, I don't order from here anymore as I've started my own herb garden, but the products they sell are organic and loved by all my crabs.
It's kind of a double whammy with herbs/flowers, really. Not only do the crabs enough them, but they put off a nice scent in the tank.
However, nothing beats home grown goodies!
Sometimes, nothing really beats the things you grow at home.
For instance - do you have a maple or oak tree in your yard? Why not go grab a little bark or even a leaf or two. Hermit Crabs love to munch on wood.
You can also pick a flower off that bush outside your house.
There are plenty of things around your house that you can feed to your crabs that they will love and benefit from. If you ever have any questions on if something is safe for them or not - ask about it. Someone will know and they'll answer.
That being said...
If you know of any other places online that sell nutritious organic hermit crab food, please do post it. I love ordering new things for my crabbies.
